What Makes an Outdoor Wedding Special
Outdoor weddings capture something unique: freedom, intimacy, and the feeling of being surrounded by natural beauty. For many couples, it’s about letting the landscape set the tone, creating an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and extraordinary.
Nature becomes your décor, the seasons bring their own personality, and every moment — from your walk down the aisle to sunset portraits — feels timeless.
Tips for Planning an Outdoor Wedding
Think of guest comfort: Offer shade in summer, blankets in winter, and hydration year-round. Small touches make a big difference.
Work with the seasons: Choose flowers and food that are in season to keep things natural and sustainable.
Light matters: Plan your ceremony time with photography in mind — golden hour is ideal for breathtaking images.
Have a weather plan: Chat with our venue managers about the perfect weather plan — they’ll make sure everything flows beautifully, rain or shine.
Styling Ideas for Outdoor Weddings

Why KVBR Is Perfect for Outdoor Weddings
While outdoor weddings can be hosted anywhere, few venues offer a setting as immersive as Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat. Our 100-acre property is built around nature itself, giving couples unforgettable spaces to celebrate in the open air.
The Rock Cathedral: An ancient natural sandstone amphitheatre framed by cliffs and gums.
The Sunset Deck: West-facing views across the valley, perfect for golden-hour cocktails.
The Function Area: With soaring ceilings and an open fireplace, it’s a refined space to host your reception and continue the celebrations indoors.
The Boma Firepit: Brings everyone together outdoors after the reception — a place for stories, stargazing, and late-night connection around the flames.
With exclusive use of the entire retreat for three days and two nights, you don’t just have an outdoor wedding — you have an experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
What outdoor ceremony spaces does KVBR offer?
The Rock Cathedral, with its towering 320-million-year-old rock formations, and the Sunset Deck, with sweeping valley views, are two unforgettable outdoor settings couples love.
Do we need much décor for an outdoor wedding?
Not at all. Nature does most of the styling for you — many couples keep it simple with native florals, timber accents, or soft lighting.
What happens if the weather changes?
In over 15 years, only two weddings at KVBR have needed to move indoors due to wet weather. Thanks to the surrounding escarpments, rain cells often break up before reaching us — so while it might be raining down in Kangaroo Valley town, it’s often clear up at the retreat. Of course, we always have a beautiful indoor back-up option ready, just in case.
Can an outdoor ceremony flow into an indoor reception?
Yes. Many couples host their vows outdoors, then continue the celebrations in the Function Area with dining and dancing.
How can we make guests comfortable outdoors?
From shaded seating, and refreshing drinks in summer to cosy blankets in cooler months, KVBR helps you plan thoughtful touches for every season.
